How this trainer works
Identify the note’s function relative to R. The major-scale degrees are the reference. Up and Down say whether the note is above or below the root. Down 5 is still 5: G below C. The function stays the same across octaves.
2 = 9 · 4 = 11 · 6 = 13. Alterations carry across too: ♭2 = ♭9, ♯4 = ♯11, ♭6 = ♭13. Enharmonic functions share a button because a two-note shape alone does not establish the harmonic spelling.
Flashcard: answer for accuracy, or Reveal / Next without scoring. Quiz: timed answers. Adaptive Drill: missed shapes return more often; a correct answer under 3 seconds retires that individual shape. Other shapes of the same function remain in practice. Restart the drill to bring selected shapes back.
At 10 seconds, the answer is revealed and the attempt is ignored. Leaving the tab pauses a timed question; resume when ready. Reveals and skips never affect scoring or frequency.
Visualize: choose a function to see its positions in the seven-fret window, within one octave above or below R. Or tap any position to identify its function. The root is C4 on the four lower strings and C5 on B / high E. Fret numbers and sound use standard tuning; the function shapes can be moved to other roots.
